She looks at the reporter and says, trying to stay calm again. “I’m fine, Tintin, thanks. I’m just a little sore… *smiles awkwardly* They treated us with so much chivalry, don’t you think? Ouch … and you? Snowy? Are you two okay? anything broken?”“You can be sure that was a…
” Hey!” snapped Tintin. ” Leave her alone!”
” Right,” whispered the brute, ” Always the brave one, ey TIntin?” he asked as he punched the boy in the stomach and laughed with the cigar in his mouth.
The boy started coughing from the pain as he looked up at the men. ” What are up to? The plague, to the scientist, to the animals, to her father….. It doesn’t make scene. It just doesn’t add up.” he whispered.
” Still trying to solve it?” asked Allan. ” Just give up already, Tintin. Look at you. You lost.”
” I didn’t lose, it’s just a change of plan.” he winked.
With that the three men left to check on their scientist friend, leaving Tintin, Snowy, and Kell tied up in the dark.
“I… I’m really sorry for put you two in the middle of this mess. I’m sorry, Tintin.” She pauses, sighed and whispers “I’ll tell you my story… My father was a veterinarian in a zoo in Sao Paulo, back in Brazil. When I was still at the beginning of this investigation, the zoo where my father worked was also infected for this … “thing”, whatever that is … and all the professionals who worked there, were removed, only Krollspells had the permission to examine the sick animals on the quarantine room. But, my father still took care of the others animals, which weren’t infected. He told me what was happening in the zoo. I tried in every way into that place to investigate, but I couldn’t … They wouldn’t let me in. That’s when my father offered to help, he said he would try to examine the infected animals without authorization. I told him “no don’t do this”, ‘cause he was could have worse problems than just being fired.” she lets out a sad laugh. “But that old man was too stubborn. He would help me, I want to or not. I was at home when my father called, saying he had discovered what was happening. That silly man broke into the quarantine room. I went as fast as I could there. When I arrived at the lab, my father was lying on the floor. He told me to run, but I couldn’t leave my father like that. I started to panic and I lowered my guard. There were three men inside the lab with us, one of them shot me, I tried to deflect the shot but I got grazed on my left rib. I fell, the man tried to shoot again, but my father came in front of me to save my life and he ended up taking a shot at my place. The men fled with the roles of research that father had found. I was desperate! I screamed for help but we were alone in the place. I ran to the nearest phone and called an ambulance for my father. When I returned, the last thing he said before passing out was “Krollspells, he knows everything.” After that, I left my father in critical condition in hospital with my mother beside him, she didn’t blamed me for anything, but … (she pauses). Some time later, I started to investigate more thoroughly and found where the Krollspells would. I came to Europe after him, but Allan and Tom were always around, I could never get near at him without bumping into those two idiots. Well, I ended up coming up here in Belgium. So, that’s was when I met you and Snowy. The rest of the story you already know.
Tintin looked at Kell and stared at her sad and guilty look. ” Don’t worry Kell, we’ll figure this out, I promise… Also no need to apologize. I’ve defeated these brutes once,” he paused, ” And I can do it again. Now, Ratapopoulos probably wants to create this desease, which excplains why Krospell and him a just the grandest of friends. The question is…. why?” Tintin observed his surroundings. He looked at the bar they were suspended on. ” Kell.” he whispered. ” Start making a jumping motion with your body.” Tintin started pulling, wriggling, and jumping up and down, and Kell did the same. Suddenly, after a few seconds they both heard a crack. ” It’s working. Just a little bit more.” They continued and continued until the bar broke and the two just slipped out of the chain’s. ” Come on Kell, we must find some clues to what these brutes are doing.” smiled Tintin as he rubbed his throbbing wrists.
She looks around and whispers “We seem to be in a kind of deposit.” Snowy’s barks in a dark corner of the room. “What do you found there, boy?” Tintin said. Was the exit door, but it was locked. Kell looks around again looking for something to use to open there and find a few iron bars, each of which takes one. Kell touches the ear on the door and listen to two people talking on the other side. They don’t have time to pry open the door quietly. Then she calls Tintin and points to the air outlet that was on top of the wall. The three climb the boxes and enter quietly.
” That was brilliant, Kell.” whispered the reporter. ” Shh… somebody is in the corridor.” said Tintin as he and Kell hid in the shadows. ” It’s Tom and Alan….What are they talking about?” The two continued to evesdrop. ” I keep hearing black plague…. huh,” paused the boy as he continued to listen. ” They said something about your father…I just can’t make it out.” Tom and Alan ended their conversation and left without another word. ” Come on Kell, we must find Krospell and interogate him. Come along.” smiled the reporter, sneakily.
She thanked for being in a dark place,’cause her face was getting deep scarlet. “M- Me? *she said stammering a bit* If not for your idea, I’d still be whining hanging at that metal beam .” How he could remain calm and, even more, smiling in the midst of the whole situation? “He defeated them before? Alone?! How?” She wondered. The reporter impressed her even more. “You are amazing, Tintin.” She whispered, hoping he hadn’t heard that. They continued their way through the air outlet until arriving in an empty corridor, carefully fell over some boxes that were there, trying to not make noise. “What are all these boxes? They are over all the place.” Snowy barked in front of a door, they went to see what it was. They listened Rastapoupolos and Krollspells talking.
Tintin started listening attentively. ” Interesting….they want to ship these cargoes….What’s in them though. I don’t understand.” The talking stopped and Kell and Tinitn hid. Rastapoupolos exited leaving Krospell alone in the room. ” We have an advantage Kell, the scientist is still drunk. Let’s question him now before he gets sober, come along.” winked the reporter.
Tintin, Snowy and Kell silently entered at the room. In there was only one table with the drunk scientist sitting in a chair. Krollspells stood astonished. “What you doing here? How did you escape? The boss said he had left you stuck in another room. Get out, now! ALLAN! TOM!!” Kell advances at the scientist with an iron bar in her hand, she knocks him off the chair, rises Krollspells by the shirt collar with one hand, pushes him against the wall and puts a iron bar on his chest, pressed hard for him stop yelling. Her eyes seethed with anger. The scientist speaks with fear. “Please lady, please!! Don’t hurt me! I was just following orders!” Kell cover his mouth with her free hand and whispers. “Listen to me. I got tired of playing the good girl. I chased you for half Europe, your partners shot me and my father, they tried to hurt Tintin and Snowy, they ruined my best dress and humiliated me in front of my friends. So, I think it’s a good time to you start talking everything you know about this disease that you and yours friends are trying to recreating. But wait! There’s one more thing: If you yell or make any movement, you’re a dead man. Got it?” Krollspells maked a “yes” with his head. She takes her hand of his mouth slowly. ”Okay, okay! We’re not trying to recreate that disease, okay? We’re doing a new type of drug to be used in fights.” “What does this have to do with the animals that died?” Said the girl impatiently. “Calm down, calm down. I’ll get there, honey.” And the scientist continues. “We used the animals’ DNA on that drug. We injected a substance that absorbed part of their DNA, like as strength and agility. But for this, we must leave them in quarantine, because they were extremely violent while the substance was making the effect. After a few days, they were weak. So, before they die, we took the drugs off the animals, who soon died of attrition mental and physical. And for nobody suspect anything, we said all this occurred as a contagious disease. No one besides me could get near at the dead animals. That was when your nosy father… oh woe! Sorry! Sorry! When your father found us out and he tries to give the research to you.” “That’s when you tried to kill us, right?” She said pushing the iron bar against his throat, making Krollspells cough without air to breathe. “Ouch! Yeah baby, yes! But, we still had problems with the Animalia, when tested in humans. (yes honey, that’s the drug’s name.) They were very violent and uncontrolled. So we needed more samples of the drug. Then we went to europe, to improve the Animalia for use in humans.”
” Experimenting on animals….” Tintin thought for a moment. ” This is completely illegal!” he whispered. Tintin then took over and grabbed the scientist by the shirt. “What are you planning to do with the drug next? Tell me!” he yelled as he choked the man with the iron bar. ” Tell us….or else.” With that the reporter began to lift up his pistol.“Calm down, calm down. Put down that gun, boy, and … (He stoops and thinks a bit) On second! Yeah, go on! Shoot! Only with the noise of the shot would attract some attention. Anyway, you will never get out of here alive!!” Kell was behind Tintin while he held the scientist. She puts her hand on his shoulder and whispers to the scientist. “What do you mean by that? Speak it at once! What do you plan to do with us?” Krollspells smiled cruelly and said. “I finally finished the Animalia’s formula. It’s ready for use in humans. We only need two mice to be sure of the effects. TOM! ALLAN! They are here! HELP!” After the scientist yelled, Tintin, Snowy and Kell hear footsteps coming from the hallway.
” They’re coming.” gasped Tintin. While the reporter wasn’t listening Krospell kicked him in the gut and ran off. ” We’ll get him later.” he coughed. ” We must hide. Come on.” said Tintin as he the girl and the dog ran down the hallway. There were guards everywhere but Tintin and Kell did they’re best to dodge them. They slid under they’re legs and punched them in the face. Suddenly they were about to go to the way out until the two found TOm and Alan holding Snowy. ” Snowy!” screamed the reporter. ” Don’t you dare!”
” We won’t….” he smiled. ” JUst come with us and we will let your dog go.” they whispered grimly.
After being disarmed by Allan, while Tom held Snowy, Tintin and Kell are taken back to the depot. Kell holds of Tintin’s arm and whispers. “Are you thinking what I’m thinking, right? You know what they will do with us. We are like lab rats to them, and -) She was going to say something more, but they stopped in front of a deposit larger than the former in which they were caught. In the middle of the room had a large metal cage, next to the cage was Rastapoupolos and Krollspells, holding a syringe with a strange liquid.
“So?” *Rastapopoulos said with a wicked grin on his ugly face. “Who will be the first? The annoying puppy, the nosy reporter, or the Brazilian girl?” Rastapopulos looks at his three cobais trying to decide what will be the first to receive a dose of Animalia.
“Don’t you dare hurt them, Rastapopoulos!” Kell tries to take a step forward but Allan pulls her back. “They have nothing to do with it! Release them, please! I’ll do anything you want, I promise! Just don’t hurt Tintin and Snowy. I beg you.”
Rastapopulos look at the girl and says with a laugh “Well, well, well … where is all that bravery that you showed before, my dear? Besides, I heard something about that the Brazilians have the warm blood. Who knows how long you will take it? Allan! Bring the girl here.”
” What no!” screamed the boy. ” Let her go! Don’t harm her!”
” Wait for your turn Tintin.” smiled Rastapopoulos.
” Please don’t.” Tintin looked at Kell with a worried face. The reporter tried to struggle but Allan’s grip was too strong. ” Don’t hurt Kell and Snowy, please.” he whispered.
” Huh… Tintin, the brave reporter, is showing weakness? Well that’s new.” laughed the villain. ” What’s gotten into you boy?” The brute then eyed Kell and Tintin. ”Ahh, it’s the girl isn’t it….OH it is! Tintin, in love!? Oh that’s rich! Hahaha!”
” I’ll do anything….”
” Anything….Even put an end to your life for her’s and Snowy’s?”
Tintin stared up at the brute, back at Kell and Snowy. ” Yes.” he answered boldly.
Rastapopoulos smirked and snapped his fingers. ” Tom; Allan! Take Kell and Snowy back to the prison. They won’t be of use to us.” he grinned. ” As for you boy.” The brute then grasped the reporter tightly and strapped him down too a chair.
” Take care, Kell.” said Tintin as he stared up at the ceiling as Kell and Snowy got escorted into their cell.
(( In the cell ))
” You stay in there!” screamed Allan as he threw the two into the prison and locked the door.
She couldn’t believe it. Tintin saved her life again, and what she did in return? Nothing. Just saw the boy being pulled into the chair while Allan, took her and Snowy to the prison. She wanted to scream, to say what she felt to the reporter, but … The words don’t come out. When Allan locked them in prison, she took the dog on her lap and said. “Snowy, are you okay? They hurt you?” Snowy barked and wagged its tail showing it was okay. “Oh, good.” She embraced e and put the dog on the down. “I couldn’t do anything, Snowy. I just watched them …. AAH! I’m a useless! Now we’re stuck again, as they are using Tintin… Useless girl! Useless! If I could go out and ask for help, I …” Snowy barked for her trying to get her attention. “Not now, Snowy, I’m thinking about a plan for get us out of here!” The dog barks again, this time stronger. “What you want?” She looks at the dog with the muzzle was pointing to a small window with bars. She tries to look out the window and see that are on the street level, but the window was too small for she pass, but … “Snowy!! You’re a genius!” She takes the dog off the ground, give it a kiss on the nose and passes it through the window. “Go get some help. Quick! I’ll give a way out of here. Go!” The dog comes out like lightning down the street. Kell was back to think of a way to get out. “Pensa Kell! Pensa!” She kicks the door with rage.
“Hey!! Silence in there! Otherwise, I go there and kill you both!” Allan screams across the door.
“That’s it! I had an idea!” And she starts kicking and beating on the door to make noise. “Let me out! Let me out of here now! Allan! Your bastard! I’ll break your ridiculous nose when I leave here! You idiot! Coward!” She yells to annoy him.
“Shut up! I swear!! If you say anything else I’m going there, and this time, I’ll hit the shot at you!” He said angrily.
“It’s working!” She screams and hits even harder. “You wouldn’t be man enough to face me alone! Come here!! So I can break your ugly face!”
It was enough for Allan. Kell was hiding behind the door waiting for the right moment to strike. As he opened the door furiously, she kicks the door, knocking on Allan’s face leaving him stunned and even more angry. “This one is by Snowy!” She took the situation to punch his face. “This one is by Tintin!” She took the gun that he dropped and hit his head causing him to faint. “And this one was by my father.” She gets out of prison leaving the villain locked up and ran to the deposit. “Please God, Let’s not too late!”
(( Meanwhile Tintin sat strapped to the chair ))
” So Tintin,” laughed Rastapopoulos, ” How does it feel to know that you’re going to die in a few seconds.”
The reporter didn’t answer.
” Don’t ignore me.” snapped the villain as he slapped the boy.
” As long as Kell and Snowy are safe.” he murmured.
” Always the little hero.” The brute then got the needle ready. ” Don’t worry…this will hurt a whole lot.”
” You brute.” growled the reporter.
” Mwahaha! Save your breath boy! You’re going to need it.” Inch by inch the needle got closer and closer to the reporter’s arm. It actually punctured him.
” Agh..” he groaned as he felt it go into his skin.
When she arrives at the depot, the reporter was lying on the floor at the Rastapopulos and Krollspells’ feet. It was too late. “NO!! What have you done? Tintin? Tintin!” She runs to the fallen boy, totally panicking. “What have you done with him? Answer me!”
“We gave a little gift to your beloved reporter. Let’s see how long he takes until the drugs make some effect. Doctor, how long do you think he can stands before he lose his mind? I Think it’s better we protect ourselves puting the reporter in the cage, don’t you think? I don’t want to be around, since the drug’s effect is unpredictable so as its duration.” Rastapopulos was enjoying the whole scene.
“I don’t give more than a minute, boss.” Krollspells said cheerfully.
Kell points the gun at them. (Don’t you dare lay a finger on him!) The reporter begins to moan in pain. She puts her hand on his face. He was burning with fever. “Make he back to normal! NOW!”
“We can’t do anything, nobody can, sweetie. The only thing you can do is hope that he gonna survives until the effects of the drug pass.” Krollspells also was having a great time.
“Hold on, Tintin. Help is coming. You’ll be fine, I promise.” She takes off her jaket and makes a support for his head. “And you! *points the gun again* Inside the cage! Or you’ll prefer a shot on your knee?) She escorts Rastapopoulos, Tom and Krollspells into the cage and lock them.
“Thank you, my dear. We’re safer in here. Mwahaha! Enjoy your last minutes together.” Rastapopoulos couldn’t be happier.
Kell back to the reporter who was gasping on the floor. and once again, she was useless. She couldn’t help Tintin. All she could do now was staring at the reporter while he suffering. She looks around looking for something that could help. She finds Krollspells’ briefcase with several test tubes and finds a vial labeled (Animalia’s antidote - Test). She had no choice. Kell took another syringe and prepares a dose.
“Your silly girl! We barely tested the drug and you REALLY think the antidote gonna work? Give up! Your boyfriend will die right in front of your eyes. Hahaha!” Krollspells screams from inside the cage with an evil laugh along with his boss.
Kell injects the antidote on Tintin’s arm, hoping for a miracle. The reporter stops twitching, or make any movement. She hugs him and starts crying. “Don’t do this to me, Tintin! Please! Wake up! Open your eyes Tintin. You can’t just leave me here like that … I like you so much, your nosy reporter! TINTIN!”
Tintin stopped moving….breathing in fact. Kell began to cry, and so did Snowy who was loyal even to his death.
” I told you little girl.” laughed Krosspell. ” There is no antidote!”
” Love…so useless.” spat Ratapopoulos.
Kell became angry. She rushed over to the cage with Snowy as her gun pointed at the men’s foreheads. Tom grabber her by the neck and started to choke her.
” Perhaps you and that wretched dog will be usefull.” smiled Ratapopoulos. ” I have a lot of medecines to try out.” A syringe then got closer and closer to the girl, who couldn’t breath. ” Now be a good girl and take your medicine.”
The needle got closer and closer. Each breath Kell took could have been her last. Suddenly something happened. The syringe got shot out of the brute’s hand.
” Ratapopoulos.” said a voice from the shadows. ” Put….Her…Down….NOW!” yelled Tintin who was looking as brave as ever.
” Wha…but…you were….” muttered Krospell.
” It was just a side effect.” smiled the reporter. ” Now, unhand her and nobody gets hurt.”
” We might be in a cage boy.” snickered Krospell. ” But we still have our guns.”
” Are you sure about that?” asked Tintin. The boy then looked to a table that was feet away from their reach. ” Let’s see…you’re locked in and you have no weapons. I think I won again.” The scientist then put Kell down and the girl rushed to Tintin, so did Snowy. ” Are you two alright?” asked Tintin as he kept a close eye on the brutes.
” Don’t worry I called Thompson and Thomson, they’ll be here in a few minutes. I’m glad your safe.” the reporter then hugged the girl.
She hugged him back and starts to crying with relief. “Tintin! Are you okay? Oh My! Thanks God! I thought … I thought you had …For a moment, I thought I had lost you forever.” Shortly after Thompson and Thomson arrived with a few more officers, they arrested and took Rastapopoulos and his men. Tintin, Snowy and Kell went to the police station with the detectives, after a while giving testimony and explaining everything that had happened they were released to go home. The three were very tired because the last night was really stirred. “It’s all done, right Tintin? The bad guys are arrested, the officials promised they will destroy drugs, and you have a new story to write. Case closed!” Kell was glad for everything had ended well. “That was a great adventure. Thanks for your help Tintin. And thank you too, Snowy. I wouldn’t have done it without you two.” But she was sad to had finished the case, it meant she had to return to Brazil. She looks at the boy with a sad smile. “I’ll miss you, boys.”
